A battle between Gary Adam and Barry Johnson soon developed, Gary winning the Argyll Rally and Barry winning the Scottish. Other winners were Callum Guy, Brian Lyle, Jon Burn, and Barry Groundwater who also took the honours in Group N. The action began in Inverness with a win for Brian Lyall. Jedburgh was the venue for the second round, favourite Andy Horne crashed out, but Burns main opposition came from Dom Buckley in his Porsche 911. Round 3 in Aberdeen for the Granite City Rally and Jon Burn reinforced his lead. The fourth round, the Weldex in Argyll and a surprise visit by Murray Grierson relegated Burn to second place. The fifth round, the Scottish Rally based in Dumfries and another visitor, this time Neale Dougan pipped Burn to the post. North to Elgin for round eight and victory for John McKeown in his Sierra 4x 4. But Jon Burn had amassed enough points to call the championship his.
